Gloom Hands Tears Of The Kingdom Locations And How To Defeat Them

28 September 2026 | 97

Among the terrifying threats encountered while exploring Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, few generate as much immediate panic as Gloom Hands. Officially known as Gloom Spawn, these aggressive, fast-moving monsters emerge suddenly from dark pools to drain your health and reduce your maximum hearts. Learning where they spawn and how to effectively combat them is essential for surviving your journey across the surface and subterranean areas.

Common Locations Where Gloom Hands Spawn

Gloom Hands do not appear completely at random, but rather inhabit specific, fixed locations scattered across Hyrule. You will often encounter them in ruined structures, deep caves, and key navigational points like the Lindor's Brow Cave or near Akkala Citadel.

Subterranean areas, including the labyrinths and the Great Deku Tree's interior, also harbor these formidable encounters. Knowing these set locations allows players to prepare their inventories before entering high-risk zones or avoid them entirely if under-equipped.

Ranged Strategies and Crowd Control Techniques

Facing Gloom Hands in close-quarters melee combat is extremely dangerous due to their rapid movement and grab attacks. The most reliable tactic involves taking high ground on ledges, trees, or ruins where the hands cannot physically reach you.

Once positioned safely, fire ranged weapons infused with area-of-effect materials directly into the cluster. Fusing Bomb Flowers or Ice Fruit to your arrows allows you to deal massive damage or freeze multiple hands at once, preventing them from regenerating.

Using Confusion and Utility Items

Elemental fruits and special vegetation provide incredible tactical advantages during these intense fights. Attaching a Muddle Bud to an arrow and striking the glowing eye in the palm causes the entity to become confused and self-destruct rapidly.

Alternatively, dropping Puffshrooms obscures their vision, giving you crucial seconds to land uninterrupted heavy attacks or retreat. Dazzle Fruit can also temporarily stun the group when you are caught off guard on open ground.

Preparing for the Second Phase

Defeating the initial pack of hands does not always conclude the battle. In many instances, eliminating the Gloom Spawn triggers a secondary encounter against Phantom Ganon.

Maintain safe spacing, observe his attack telegraphs, and dodge at the last moment to execute Flurry Rushes. Victorious players are rewarded with valuable items such as Dark Clumps, Gloom Weapons, and powerful Demon King Bows.
